Student Loans

Higher education can lead to financial independence, but the vast majority of low-income consumers cannot afford college or vocational training without financial help. Many of these students attend poor quality vocational schools that do not prepare them for the jobs they will need to pay back the loans. Still others cannot complete their coursework due to financial pressures. Unable to pay back their loans, they end up facing the government’s vast collection powers.

NCLC's Student Loan Borrower Assistance Project is a resource for borrowers, their families and advocates representing student loan borrowers. The site also has updated information about NCLC's student loan policy initiatives.
